A gorgeous book that looks as good on a table as on the bookshelf. A well-designed layout keeps the reader engaged and can entertain the casual peruser. The World's Best Whiskies finds a middle ground between Murray's overly-comprehensive Whisky Bible and Buxton's best-of 101 Whiskies to Try Before You Die.
Roskrow focuses more on background and character than on facts or grades. The book is full of little-known anecdotes, sports and music comparisons (blended whisky is like an American football team, Lagavulin 16 is Miles Davis, Glenrothes 25 has a recommended track -- "California Dreamin'" by The Mamas & Papas), and absolute character. Reading feels more like a conversation than a lecture or an encyclopaedia entry.
A must-have for seasoned whisky-drinkers and newcomers alike. Highly recommended.
