This is Nat's 5th release, His first on his own label and I think it is his deepest effort so far.On many tracks he has doubled up the Bass and Drums to create more shifting rhythmic textures reminiscent of the great Coltrane albums of 1965 Sunship and The Coltrane Quartet plays. Yes the music is a little freer but there is much melodic invention and great support from both Piano and Vibes, the latter having a very African feel that really suits the music. What is also in evidence is Nat's great sound. OK there is a large slice of Trane in there but I also hear Mankunku a slightly softer sounding South African Tenor Player. This for me gives the music a lilting musicality. By the time the CD had finished I felt the music had left a sunny day in the room... Something we could all do with.
