“While we were working on our album these past few months, we could literally feel how powerful and creative our work was–and how much fun we were still having, in the process,” says SCORPIONS lead singer KLAUS MEINE about the band’s new album STING IN THE TAIL. “We want to end the SCORPIONS’ extraordinary career on a high note. We are extremely gracious for ... Read more in Amazon's Scorpions Store

5.0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate In Stadium Rock 8 Sep 2002
Format:Audio CD
...Forget about those 80's rock cliches & just think about the music. Before Wind Of Change turned them into a 'pop' band, The Scorpions were one of the world's great live bands.
After 'Countdown' slowly whips the crowd into a frenzy, 'Coming Home' kicks in and must be one of the best ever opening live tracks alongside 'Aces High' and 'Tie You're Mother Down'.
Much of the material is from The Scorps' best LPs 'Love At First Sting', 'Blackout' and 'Animal Magnetism'.
Thinking man's metal this is not...but good-time rock'n'roll it certainly is. As Klaus most rightly says, "It's a Rock'n'Roll Hurricane"!!
'New' favourites like 'Big City Nights' and 'Rock You Like A Hurricane' mixed with Scorps classics like 'The Zoo', 'Holiday' and 'No One Like You' proved to be an irresistible combination as America, in particular, lapped it up.
The highlight is, without doubt, the best version of probably the greatest ever rock ballad, 'Still Loving You'. The depth of feeling feeling in Klaus' vocalsand Rudolf 'the red nosed' Schenker's guitars are apparent in this most beautiful of ballads.
The Scorpions were never the most fashionable or famous rock band but, for those of us lucky enough to see them live at their peak, this is a wonderful reminder of how much fun rock music used to be.
Unfortunately grunge, old age and a general lack of good ideas meant the The Scorpions would never be the same again. This album serves as a reminder of a great band at their peak, and also of a more innocent age in heavy rock, before the doom merchants of today dug their depressing claws in.

5.0 out of 5 stars The unofficial best of..... 18 Dec 2006
Format:Audio CD
It is easy to forget how enormous the Scorpions were before they flushed themselves so determinedly down the toilet after this record. They are also notable for having once used the word 'therefore' in a song.

This is a document of a band at the height of their powers. The sound is more raw than on their obver-polished studio releases, and each song ROCKS. I can even listen to the 2 ballads without automatically pressing fast forward. Fact is that the Scorpions know a melody when they hear one, and this album is crammed full of them.

This is the unofficial best of album - it has atmosphere, all the best tracks, and none of the new rubbish, which no one wants to hear. Absolutely excellent.

4.0 out of 5 stars When the Scorpions still rocked 4 Sep 2003
Format:Audio CD
This was released to celebrate the tour following the Love at First Sting album. The Scorps were still big on hair, loud guitars, open-mouthed posing and heavy metal tunes - not the rubbish they started releasing after that song about Moscow and whistling came out, which has appeared on every rock ballad album ever since.
The songs are superb - Rock You Like a Hurricane, The Zoo, Noone Like You, Make It Real, Loving You Sunday Morning, Another Piece of Meat.
This is a great live album - the band really could rock with the best of them. The video that came out at the same time is also one of the best heavy metal live videos as well, with shows from all around the world, rather than just one show in one stadium from start to finish. The Scorpions really were brilliant - I don't know what went wrong (sob).

3.0 out of 5 stars Rubbish mix and poor CD quality 25 May 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This is a really poor copy of what is an amazing album - Spoilt by the mix. Rhythm guitar and vocals on one channel Lead on the other and the quaality of the CD recording is really poo. Not quite sure how this is possible.
I bought the tape copy over 20years ago and its still better than this CD!?

4.0 out of 5 stars Once were Warriors 2 Aug 2007
Format:Audio CD
Just like `Tokyo Tapes' is a fitting live epitaph to the band's Uli Jon Roth period, so `World Wide Live' is an appropriate record to mark the end of the era where the Scorpions were a genuine, world-beating heavy rock act. Even though some of their later albums are worthy efforts and the band were to enjoy even greater success some years later when they released that song with the whistling, the next record, `Savage Amusement', showed the first cracks in their armour. This was the last Scorpions record I truly loved, without reservation, and I'm sure it's the same for many long-standing fans of the band.
Even though it lacks a little charm, tending to sound overly-professional and hence a touch sterile, `World Wide Live' is a great live album. This is due to the sheer quality of the songs on offer: the track list is pretty much the cream of their four previous, most commercially-successful albums (that would work in a live setting) and they are delivered with plenty of enthusiasm and an energy that pours out of the speakers. Healthy remixing has beefed up the sound and the track-listing is well-structured to keep the pace of the record flowing.
There is no let-up in quality or intensity, even on the slower numbers; from the high-octane opening thrust of `Coming Home' and `Blackout' to the frenetic final charge of `Can't Get Enough', WWL rocks hard. The great US single `Rock You Like a Hurricane' sounds stadium-splittingly huge, `The Zoo' pounds like a steamhammer and `Dynamite' tears from the stereo at the speed of a jet fighter. Probably the highpoint of the whole affair comes in the latter half of disc one, where the evocative chords of `Big City Nights' run effortlessly into the instrumental powerhouse that is `Coast to Coast'.
