Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The CD-ROM World War II explores its material in two ways: thematically, showing the development of the conflict from its origins to the final outcome; and through a Personal Editor.

From 1918 to 1945, trace the history of the rise of Hitler and Nazism, military rearmament, the defeat of France, the extraordinary confrontation between the Soviet Union and Germany, the decisive involvement of the United States in the War. Be present at the turning point of the conflict in 1942, and follow the series of victories which finally led the Allied Forces into Berlin in May, 1945, and compelled Japan to surrender after Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Study the words and deeds of the main participants: military leaders like Zhukov, Montgomery, Eisenhower, Guderian and Leclerc; and political leaders, like Roosevelt, Churchill, Stalin, Hitler and De Gaulle. Learn about the resistance movement in Greece, Italy, France, Yugoslavia, etc. Consult military files from the period, and the maps of major battles: Stalingrad, D-Day, Guadalcanal, Berlin.

This CD-ROM does not just deal with the events themselves, it also tackles the major questions raised by the bloodiest conflict in the history of humanity: the use of the atomic bomb, the holocaust, the attitude of the western democracies to the War. Finally, it incorporates key passages from novels, memoirs and poems, including Bertolt Brecht, Thomas Mann, Georges Bernanos, Norman Mailer, Anna Akhmatova, Primo Levi and many others.

With a Personal Editor using research software, you have the possibility at any moment of accessing elements present anywhere on the CD in order to organise, collect and cross-reference them according to your own interests. You can also write your own commentary, watch animated sequences and print a hard copy.
