I have to agree with an earlier reviewer when it comes to the subject matter of this film. Of all the horror, confusion and undoubted heroism of that day, it seems strange to focus on a couple of guys who, whilst bravely going to the rescue, saw absolutely nothing and were trapped underground all day. The film is basically about them, how their families react and eventually the rescue. To say it's a narrow viewpoint in the context of that day would be putting it mildly.
I had hoped for more from Oliver Stone, who really seems to have dropped the ball on this one. I think a broader perspective, taking into account the general confusion and snowballing reaction from all responders and the total chaos of that day would have made for a more effective film, but I suspect this film was a deliberate attempt to humanise the story at a family level and I have to say it fell short of the mark, as it became more of a melodramatic cliche than a big budget retelling of the day.
"United 93" is an undoubtedly superior film in terms of dramatic tension and its ability to portray the utter confusion that existed at the start of the events of that day.
As for blu-ray, nothing special in terms of picture or sound, so not a great buy.
