Product Description

Climax blues band, were already an established exciting blues rock band when the hot summer of 1976 arrived.Formed in Stafford in 1969,they had released nine albums on various labels, completed endless tours of the UK,Europe and USA and built a solid reputation as a sophisticated and classy outfit wherever they played.Their latest album gold plated was released in April 1976.When the decision to release a single from that album was made,no one would expect what was to come next.A new British tour in the autumn,to promote the new single was planned. One of the dates on Sunday 31st October at the university of Nottingham, was marked down for a local live radio broadcast. The original master tapes survive from that gig and capture the band on the verge of rock stardom. The new single couldn't get it right with it's appealing funk groove, stormed up the British charts reaching 5 in early November and was also a mega-hit in the us and Europe.Five days after this gig,the band appeared on the bbc TV show-Top of the Pops.Climax blues band were then elevated into the big leagues.Later, playing to 20,000 crowds in the usa with further tv and radio.

Take a trip back to the days of 1976. The Climax Blues Band on the road.....taking off in UK and USA... and delivering a powerful set of blues and rock numbers. Having seen the band many many times live, this concert took me right back to those heady days of my youth!!!!. Great band, great sound!!!! Enjoy!!!!!

This is a really good live recording of Climax, one of the best and most original British blues bands. They are very tight and their arrangements are thoughtful and intricate. The playing is of a very high standard, the interplay between the guitar and the sax is terrific. Highly recommended.

I am proud to say this is one of my recordings from my Radio Days in Nottingham as sound engineer.
Special thanks to MLP for getting the permissions sorted out. It is a great concert and it took only 36 years to get it out, buy it, and help MLP to get more of this stuff out.Check out other MLP recordings.

I saw the band on the next gig that they played. I felt this was the highpoint for them, excellent stuff.

This is a live performance in Nottingham University by a good British Blues Band. At its best Climax Blues Band could rival the Average White Band. This is a good but not outstanding set. For those who like British Blues this is a good one to add to a big collection.
