having just bought this release on the back of a decent"ish" Classic Rock review(feb.2005)i must say how listening to this c.d. on a s.a.c.d machine brought a smile to my face with its sheer musical quality.
you,ve all heard the claims of the "next pink floyd "etc etc but this set of songs really does have that very mellow, melancholy charm of Floyd circa 1971 -74,but with a more contemporary production. The vocals, criticised in Classic Rock, are simply fabulous -if you like that laconic David Gilmour sound(i do).The mastering on the s.a.c.d. version is second to none you are placed within the music rather than,on some discs that have sound effects coming at you for no reason out of the rear speakers.
If ,like me,you are a lover of all things "prog", whatever that really does mean, then you are in for a real treat - sit back ,turn it up and enjoy the music.

I guess this album put them on the map of great progressive rock albums. Searching for great progressive rock albums was how I found both RPWL and Sylvan, 2 jewels shining under the radar still in 2009. The structure of RPWL songs is truly progressive and unique. My favorite songs of WTME are Wasted Land and Roses but Sleep and Sea Nature are also great and the rest of the album is very strong. World Through My Eyes was their 4th album released in 2005. You have to remember that with RPWL it is sometimes great music, at other times less music but still great atmosphere. And Yogi's lyrics get into you as well. Both Wasted Land and Roses have it all. This is an exellent album although it may take you a little time to get into it. It took me a few listens as well...The following are my favorite songs of RPWL: Farewell, Wasted Land, God Has Failed, Masters Of War, Home Again, Crazy Lane, The Way It Is, Perceptual Response, Reach For The Sun, Wait Five Years, Roses, The Gently Art Of Swimming, Waiting For A Smile, Sea-Nature, Hole In The Sky. Black Despair is an amazing song as well (from Kalle Wallner's solo Blind Ego album).

RPWL (taken from the first letter of the surname of each of the original band members) started life in 1997 as a Pink Floyd cover band, but quickly found their own sound and their own place in the progrssive rock/symphonic rock arena. 'World Through My Eyes' is their fourth studio album follwing on from 'God Has Failed' (2000), 'Trying to Kiss the Sun' (2002) and 'Stock' (2003) and firmly establishes them, alongside Sylvan, as one of Germany's most important prog bands writing music at the moment.

'World Through My Eyes' clearly shows its origins in the sound of Pink Floyd; more interestingly the rhythms and melodies on this album also shows the clear influence of the Beatles. The mixture creates a unique sound: new drummer Manfred Mueller provides a stable and sometimes 'bluesy' beat to magnificently moody vocals and punchy, captivating guitar overlays. Two tracks show a heavy Hindu influence in terms of sound and atmosphere - and this, combined with some distinctly 70's psychedelic background work is the clearest indication of a Beatles homage being paid.Throughout the album, there is a continual interplay of a variety of differing instruments which all feed in to the creative dynamism of the beat and the melodies.

Nevertheless, the sound is distinctively their own. The lyrics take a while to actually sink in. Unlike the upbeat pace of the music they are more reflective, carefully chosen and sometimes stand at a counter-point to the pace and force of the music. It will take two or three listens at least before the significance of what is being said starts to sink in. Taken in combination with the clean, crisp mixing of the instruments and the perfect production values applied to the recording as a whole, then we left with a disc and a record which is bright, melodic, rocky and a joy to listen to time and time again. This is worth every penny: and we can only hope their forthcoming studio album '9' will continue the exceptionally high standards set down in this album.
