This is Ian's third record recorded in the US by Todd Selbert and is as good if not better than the earlier 'In a New York Minute' recorded with Cedar Walton.
What can you expect on an Ian Shaw disk? Well if you are expecting another visit to the 'Great American Songbook' you'll be disapponted althougth there are moving interpretations of 'This is always' and 'I'm glad there is you'. There is also songs from Gilbert o'Sullivan ( transformed from the sentimental to the sublime), David Bowie, Elton John/Bernie Taupin and RadioHead. All reintrepreted and improved in the other Jazz Tradition of improving the original arrangements/ melody.
The supporting band is probably the best that has appeared on an Ian Shaw recording. All in all an essentail purchase.
Now for the bad news. At the time of writing, it is my understanding that this recording has not got distribution or a label to relase it in the UK. The UK record industry should be ashamed of itself. Instead of trying to manufacture another 'pop idol/ three minute hero' can the industry please get back to nurturing and producing music.
