Book Description

Not for the faint-hearted! This book certainly isn't your normal run-of-the-mill quiz book. It comprises 240 questions from the 2012 World Quizzing Championships competition and is probably the toughest quiz you will ever set eyes on.

The World Quizzing Championships take place all over the world on the first Saturday of June. The competition has no qualifying heats - you just find your local centre and go and take part. Venues are announced on the worldquizzingchampionships.com website from April.

Please note: due to licensing, any questions with pictures have been amended to remove the pictures. This affects approximately 25 questions.

Quiz question setting is a difficult task.Questions need to tough enough to test the intellect while not being too tough to ward off competitor interest. This book is a perfect example of a publication that has successfully pulled off this difficult task.
4.0 out of 5 stars Great questions, but minus a star for total lack of Kindle formatting 28 May 2014

Writing great trivia questions are hard enough without having to come up with several hundred that are accessible to English speakers throughout the world.

As you might guess from the title, these aren't questions for the casual trivia player, but are for people who are at least fairly serious about their trivia/quizzing.

My one quibble about the questions is the one I have about trivia/quizzing in general, which is the emphasis on sports, which I think is one reason more women don't compete. Although the writers of these questions do factor in more questions about women's sports than usual, it would be nice if someday sports took its place as just another lifestyle question, like, say, fashion. You can imagine how much men would grumble if an entire section were devoted to that subject.

Other than that, the only real problem with this publication is that there are no navigation markers at all for reading it on a Kindle or other e-reader. It would be nice if there were chapter markers for the beginning of each section, so that you could optionally navigate to the answers if you don't want to sit this the way you would at the championships themselves.

Other than that, a great collection of questions for serious trivia buffs.
