The book is an outstanding and thorough history of the photographic process, equipment, photographers and styles from Niepce's first photos through color photographs from the 1980's. A very complete survey, especially of the photographers with lots of examples.

This book must be on any shelf of everyone one who loves books and/or photography. It has a wealth of information regarding the history of photography that shows how this art evolved through history. As an amateur photographer, this compendium is full of precious information that helps me understand photography and its masters.

If I were you, I would buy the hardcover version of this ...not that the paperback is no good, but because once you have this volume you will definitely want to keep it forever!! I've had mine for ten years and it is still my favourite book of photography. Superb quality and a wealth of information and, better still ...inspiration!! Treat yourself, I promise you won't regret it...
