well written fourteen crime stories, 4 Feb 2003

The fourteen crime stories that make up this anthology are all well written fun to read. Mat Coward provides the audience with strong characterizations whether the protagonist is a hero or a criminal so that in spite of the "shortness" the key player seems real. The cast is atypical of short stories, as the development of the stars like Colin Mann and "Mugged" will feel as if they headlined a novel. The story lines contain twists regardless of which sub-genre the tale belongs to though many cross the artificial lines of two or more. Filled with intelligence and witty dialogue, do yourself a favor and enjoy this collection that will send readers seeking Mr. Coward's novels such as UP AND DOWN and IN AND OUT (just don't use a taxi).Harriet Klausner
