Book Description

After I cycled around the world I was inundated with emails from people asking me how I made it happen. This is a guide book about how Sean got to the start line for a long distance cycle adventure. It's for serious people who want a cycle adventure but don't know where to start. This is how he did it!

Find out everything from equipment, nutrition, training, safety, sponsorship, and how to go from cycling 40 miles to 200 miles a day.

Sean really believes that ANYONE can cycle around the world. The hardest part is getting to that start line. This book will make sure you are as prepared as you’ll ever be when you get there.

About the Author

Sean Conway is an endurance adventurer and self confessed nutter. He seems to take pleasure in mentally and physically pushing himself way beyond what he thought possible. He started his endurance adventures with a mile swim across a lake at the age of 10 and then again at 12. Sean then took to another water-sport and throughout his teens he competed in many endurance kayak (K1 & K2) marathons. Amongst many other challenges Sean is mostly recognised for climbing Kilimanjaro dressed as a penguin and more recently cycling 16,000 miles through 6 continents in 116 days and doing most of it with a fractured spine after getting run over by a truck in America. His never-give-up attitude captured the imagination of thousands and is now giving talks about setting your goals high, challenging yourself and overcoming tough times. Having grown up in Africa, Sean also focuses his energies on trying to raise awareness about banishing the kerosene lamp from Africa by the end of the decade. This audacious goal is being pioneered by the charity Solar Aid to which Sean supports.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant and inspirational 23 Oct. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book was really enjoyable and really inspirational. If you dream of doing a cycling challenge of any magnitude this is what will push you to say yes and do it whilst giving you all the tools and information to get you successfully there and home. I emailed Sean asking for advice about an adventure I had planned and he not only encouraged me he gave me brilliant advice. It's an enjoyable read too with a great insight to his adventure. You wont regret reading this, I'll be buying the paperback edition to have whilst on the road as means as a survival guide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very detailed 25 Sept. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I've always wanted to know what it takes to cycle around the world. Especially the equipment used. Thanks for letting us know all the ins and outs. I hope you write another book about the adventure.

I have a lot of admiration for Sean completing his ride, particularly after the crash. I bought the book as a way of preparing for my own ride and it was effective in that. I bought a kindle version and so I am not sure if it applies to the paperback too but the reason for just 3 stars is that there were quite a few typos and some jumbled sentences, which I found off putting. But overall it has some good advice (primarily tailored to people attempting a fast circumnavigation) and will serve to motivate.

3.0 out of 5 stars not as good as his other book. 27 July 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Was really looking forward to reading this book as I had just finished his LEJOG book and that was brilliant, but this was a bit of a disappointment as it's not really about the travel or adventures he had, it's more of a guide of how to set yourself up for a challenge to travel the world by bike. I suppose that if I had bothered to read the description of the book I would have known that before I purchased it. If your looking to plan an adventure like this then this book would be perfect for you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 13 Jun. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I probably should have realised by the price that this wouldn't be a particularly detailed insight. I read it within a couple of hours & didn't feel it really gave a very in-depth account or really tell me anything I couldn't have worked out for myself
