4.0 out of 5 stars Of Geryl's three books this is the one you can skip!!, 8 Jun 2007
By
Dennis R. Hoyer (Sterling Heights, MI USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The World Cataclysm in 2012: The Maya Countdown to the End of Our World (Paperback)
I read Geryl's first book "Orion Prophecy" in 2003 and thought it was excellent and that he is on to something. I next read his latest book "How to survive 2012" and that was excellent although a little discouraging in terms of survival places to be when 2012 hits. This book "The World Cataclysm in 2012" completes what Geryl wants to say but it is the one to skip of the three he has out. This book is big on math. And though I think he is on to something, as I believe this knowledge came from Mu and Atlantis (ie E.T.'s), he also comes off as sort of a cook to someone who is light on math and not their forte. For this reason mostly, I feel this book is the one to skip of the three Geryl has out there. If your big on 2012 as I am, then you will want to pick up a copy of this book because it completes what Geryl has to say about this subject. Geryl believes every 11,500-12,000 years the sun cycle causes the sun to reverse its poles which causes huge CME's which reach the earth and cause the earth's poles to flip making the earth to start revolving in the opposite direction thereby causing great destruction on all of civilization. This science is right on as I have checked it out, which makes me a big Geryl fan.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hmmmm, 14 Oct 2009
This review is from: The World Cataclysm in 2012: The Maya Countdown to the End of Our World (Paperback)
I'm afraid that this book lacks structure when looking at any chapter on its own. With constant references to previous and upcoming chapters, and a complete lack of scientific method to test his hypotheses, this fosters a state of confusion in the reader.

I would describe this book as the hammer in the phrase 'If the only tool you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail'. The author appears to be dead set on making sure every historical reference (things that look like nails, but aren't) can be fitted into his 2012 idea (hit by a hammer).

I wanted to like it. But didn't

4.0 out of 5 stars What a fun little read!, 1 Feb 2012
This review is from: The World Cataclysm in 2012: The Maya Countdown to the End of Our World (Paperback)
I really enjoyed this book. As simple as. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in geoscience, Mayan and Egyptian astrology as well as some of their history, and of course the Mayan prediction itself, so long as they don't freak out too easily. I'm a student interested in geology and geoscience, and after having read up on and watched some documentaries about the significance of 2012 - in terms of solar activity and the effects the sun will have on the earth's geodynamics - I was keen to see what Patrick Geryl had to say on this matter after coming across his book. However, he does seem to be set on the world ending in December 2012 so if you're easily scared, I wouldn't suggest reading this. Purely out of interest I did, but he does tend to rant and try to clearly state to the reader that unless drastic actions are taken to preserve our civilization as it is, soon, the world as we know it will cease to exist! He is a little overdramatic for my liking. And he does assume things to be true. Which, if you're going to scare people in to thinking the world will soon be over, making such outlandish statements, you need to state FACTS. Not assumptions.
But was a fun and interesting read anyway. I kept making annotations and double checking things on the internet while reading this to be clear on the facts. Considering I then wrote a little paper on this subject it was fine for me to do, just keep an open mind while you're reading it. I found most of his serious "We're all going to die!" rants quite amusing. Just don't take him so seriously.
