Taking its cue from the timeless and sensuous late night ambience of John Martyn, Arab Strap and the Blue Nile, and occasionally drawing on the darker, more parched terrain of the twin towers of doom, Leonard Cohen and Mark Eitzel, the album offers a seductive selection of contemporary bedsit classics.

Created in collaboration with Irish singer Sandra O'Neill, guitarist Tony Harn, and Porcupine Tree's Colin Edwin and Steven Wilson (on the exquisite Watching Over Me), the result is a stylish fusion of singer-songwriter intimacy and textural invention. Featuring eight original compositions and two cover versions (Peter Hammill's Opehlia and a bizarre and beautiful makeover of King Crimson's Two Hands), World of Bright Futures smoulders in a twilight reverie of cheap drum machines and high emotions, digital hardware and human heartache. I am being deadly serious here, this is one album that everyone should listen to, or even better, own. This is music to stir the soul and provoke emotions that modern living can make you forget that you have. From the opening song to the final song on the record there are absolutely no fillers. Dissecting the album and pulling out favorite tracks is a pointless exercise and kinda defeats the object....this is a complete work. When you reach the end I gaurantee you will sit there breathless for a few minutes before deciding to put it on again and relive the experience. Truly music to caress the soul.

i've had this CD since it was released and have now purchased it 3 times -- i had to give the first two copies away to friends...it is that good.
crooning, mellow, elevating -- brilliant!
this is a small album that i cannot believe has been so totally overlooked. buy anything by tim bowness! buy this cd.
