Book Description

30 July 2009 Music Express Extra
World Beats is a complete resource for classroom teachers exploring drumming styles from various cultures around the world. It has been specially developed for 7-11 year olds and offers new and exciting ways into creating musical performances as a whole class. This multi-media pack gives teachers the opportunity to discover, along with their class, the differences and similarities between drumming from different cultures. The book contains games and activities that build towards complete performance pieces and are suitable for 'non-specialists' as well as being useful for group tuition through Wider Opportunities schemes. Each pack contains a CD with demonstration performances and backing tracks to play along with, as well as a CD-ROM containing additional activities and photocopiable printouts for use within the lessons. World Beats can be used either as an essential part of your scheme of work or as a dip-in resource.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! 13 Feb 2011
By Matt H
I'm using this book in a primary school with KS2 children and it's brilliant. Everything is clearly laid out in six chapters - each covering a different percussion style (Samba, Salsa, Japanese Taiko etc.). Each chapter neatly lays out a series of sessions which build, in manageable steps, the required rhythms and techniques and end with a final performance. The CD and supporting materials are really helpful as are the illustrations. The children love it - we're planning an African drumming week after half term - can't wait.
