5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Companion, 8 Nov 2002
By A Customer
This is a fantastic book about the best comedies ever made. Everyone has probably heard of Austin Powers, and this book is the perfect companion.
The book is in encyclopedia style- it is acting as if it is actually a real factual book about actual things- and I'm telling you, you feel that way at the end of this very fun book. It's factual tongue in cheek approach is actually what makes it so fantastic. In every chapter there is a section on all the different areas of the films- Austin babes, Mojo motors, evil people (including the infamous Mr Bigglesworth), along with, of course a full walk through of the film plots. But what really makes this book so fabulous, and loyal to the films are the hilarious quotes running on nearly ever page, to give you reminders of those precious one-liner gems you could only hear from a Mike Myers creation- ''Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to my underwater submarine lair. It's long and hard and full of seamen.''- hilarious.
The book starts off with the usual contents, which is actually quite useful- you don't have to read the book cover to cover (although I don't know why you wouldn't want to) You can find the Austin info you want, and flick through. I know this sounds obvious, but you'd be surprised how many movie companions don't have this.
The reason why I loved this book is because it truly is a masterpiece- you can't get a better guide to the Austin films. What makes the book so special is the fact that it doesn't talk about the films in a factual, O.T.T, talking down to you style. It lets you enjoy the films in book form, without ruining the films with behind the scenes spoilers, which really take the magic away from the films. This book is something you can curl up with, after watching the entire trilogy back to back. It allows you to re-live the masterpieces of comedy, along with interesting backstories and information. And for all those film buffs out there, there is even a section dedicated to the movie credits.
The World of Austin Powers is the perfect companion to the trilogy, and it can get you hooked on the films, even if you haven't seen them.
