Product Description

Product Description

First published in 1976, "The World Atlas of Golf" was the first book to take a global view of the sport and the history and architects of course design. Now, over 30 years later, it's back and better than ever. Completely new text has been written by an expert panel comprising of course designers, ex-tour pros, leading journalists and commentators from around the globe, and covers the courses that are seminal in the history of the sport or simply demonstrate architectural brilliance. Sumptuous computer-generated artworks accompany each course, illustrating features in impressive detail, while 'cut away' illustrations of signature holes highlight their particular challenges and show the course architect's ingenuity. With feature pages that provide a thorough understanding of the golfing scene in every part of the world and maps showing the locations of key clubs, this is the book that will set the benchmark in golf publishing for the next 30 years.

By RR Waller TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
For most golfers, this is just the sort of book they would love to have written, travelling the world to play golf on the best courses before photographing them and writing about the experience; this is also an updated edition, so they had to do it twice. Someone gets paid to do this! Where can I apply?

The first twenty pages are a general introduction to course design and designers, the golden age of golf course design and the modern advances which have been made recently allowing courses to be built much faster and mature more quickly.

The remaining chapters cover the continents, listing the great courses on each together with wonderful photography, maps and illustrations. There is also some history, remembering great games played on them.

An ideal present for any golfer with an interest in travel.

Golf Atlas 13 Feb 2009
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this book for my brother who is a golf professional. He has found it really useful when travelling the world and in fact when he went to the Dominion Republic recently, he purposely went to one of the golf courses listed and was not disappointed. He rates this book very highly.
