I ordered this ladybird kit for my daughter who is 5, and obsessed by insects. I made the mistake of telling her I had ordered it.....
The kit arrived within 3 days (5 stars Amazon), with a note inside saying you could log on to brainstormltd to order the lavae. So I logged on....only to find that their website isn't up and running yet...so I rang them. Very polite lady answered the phone, and informed me that the ladybird larvae cost £6! (I was expecting there to be a voucher inside so I could just quote a reference number and get the larvae for free, or that if I had to pay, it would only be about £2.50 seeing as I had already shelled out £15 for the net basket to house them in). I duely paid the £6, and was told the ladybirds would arived with the next 2-3 WEEKS!!!!
I knew I would have to order the larvae, but I feel it should be made clear somewhere in the 'description' of the kit, that the larvae take at least 2 weeks to arrive, and that they cost £6.
My daughter has asked me every day if the kit is coming soon, and now I'm going to have to explain that whilst the ladybird 'house' is here, she's going to have to wait a bit longer for the larvae.
Once it's all up and running, I know she will love it, and of course, we'll be able to order ladybird larvae time and time again...I just wish I'd known the REAL costs, and also how long it would take before I could actually use the kit.

    World Alive - Ladybird Kit

Great fun. Kids really enjoyed watching the changes from larvae to ladybird before releasing them into the garden. Very educational and well worth it as the habitat can be reused year after year.

Sorry, this is a long-winded review, but please bear with me!
I ordered 2 of the ladybird kits for our Reception classes at my school as part of our Life Cycles topic. They were so excited about the thought of 'growing' ladybirds!
I ordered the larvae as instructed and waited patiently for their arrival, being careful to arrange delivery after the Easter and Royal Wedding Bank holidays. But they arrived the day BEFORE the long weekend, so by the time we came to put them in the habitat they were all dead!
So I emailed the company who kindly sent replacements....but they arrived a week late, out of the 3 boxes sent only 5 larvae were moving so we quickly put them in the habitats, fed them...only to find them deceased the next morning!
My class were so looking forward to this...now I have to tell them them their ladybird babies are no more! In fact they hardly ever existed in the first place!
It's such a waste of time and money. We had the similar kits for butterflies and they have been great. But the ladybirds came from Belgium and obviously did not like air-travel!
I will be writing to Insect-Lore to demand an explanation, apology and of course a refund on the pathetic insects they sent.
And will try to find another source of ladybird larvae!
