A compilation of recordings made under the Decca label by The Academy of Ancient Music, an orchestra founded (most recently) by British conductor and harpsichordist Christopher Hogwood in 1973. The CD includes some enjoyable and technically precise renditions of favourites by composers from Purcell through to Beethoven.
The selection is educational - clearly demonstrating the changing musical form between the late 17th and early 19th centuries - and very entertaining and relaxing to listen to.
I originally bought this CD for research purposes, but have found it to be of much more general interest than that. I cannot fault the compilation, and never tire of listening to it.
