3.0 out of 5 stars Duplicates of material 26 Sep 2010

This is a good collection of le Fanu's work, containing a great many excellently crafted tales. Where it falls down is not on his work, but that of the publisher of this edition. For one thing, there are duplicates within the collection: for example, An Account of Some Disturbances in Aungier Street appears twice, as a stand-alone and as part of the J S LeFanu's Ghostly Tales series. And while there is an interactive table of contents at the start, no account has been taken of the fact that it includes a number of collections of stories, some of them containing a lot of tales, and these don't have an interactive content list. If you know what is in them you can search, but other than that you can't jump to a particular story. I wouldn't mind if this was a free collection (and after all the contents are all public domain), but having paid for it I am a bit annoyed at the errors.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great writer but books left unfinished 29 Jan 2013
I really enjoy Sheridan Le Fanu and have read some of his works before. I highly recommend giving him a try if you haven`t before. Unfortunately this anthology is probably not the way to go. It is difficult to navigate through, not easy to select a work from or dip in and out of. I don`t mind immersing myself in a favourite author but I do object to unfinished works. Partway through Haunted Lives the book ends and a new one begins. Haunted Lives was new to me but having checked it out elsewhere I can see no good reason for not including the whole work.

1.0 out of 5 stars Formatting and Table of Contents Issues 19 Dec 2010

The "active" Table of Contents is poorly done for the short stories particularly. You cannot go to an individual stories within the Ghostly Tales, and the formatting for the Purcell Papers are absolutely dreadful: almost every other word is shoved together with the following word. The "Tales" and "Papers" collections are out of the free sample range, so it wasn't until I purchased this ebook that I became aware of this terrible formatting issue. I DO NOT recommend purchasing this collection until it is dramatically altered into a much friendlier format.
