Product Description

Product Description

Fed by media fascination with super heavyweights like George Foreman, the perception of boxers as oversized guys with oversized muscles is simply wrong. For every weight class, strength must be carefully balanced with the ideal physique. In truth, boxer training produces a body perfectly balanced for strength, shape, speed, and stamina.

The author traveled the world talking to top boxers about how they train for peak performance. Their workouts will help reshape the reader's body, and the short bios and quotes from legendary favorites will inspire readers to take their workout to the next level.

This one-of-a-kind approach to the world of boxing offers readers proven tips on balancing their own physique. Want to build more strength? Follow the workout of heavyweights like Ali. Need to slim down but don't want to lose muscle? Try the program of middleweight Fernando Vargas. Want to go all out for the ultimate physical fitness? Then try to keep up with the training of pound-for-pound legend Roy Jones Jr.

The book is fine as far as it goes, the writer seems like a really nice guy and everything but be aware of what it is you're buying: every boxer that he features just offers some really basic info about their training and it's always the same stuff :- how far they run, how long they skip for, how long they spar for, how much time they spend on the speed bag and the heavy bag; really, read one guy's routine you've pretty much read them all and if you're a boxer it's pretty much what you've been doing too. Don't really get all the positive reviews on this one.

I have read alot of different books on this subject and can say with all honesty that this is the best one so far. Why would you want to follow the training methods of somebody who has skill in writing but has not proven anything in the ring (or corner), when you can do what has worked for great fighters like Ali, Roy Jones, Vargas, Buchanan and many others.

studying this book also helps you to see patterns in relation to the style of the fighters. For example fighters who rely on speed like Ali, Jones Jr and others never use any weights in their workouts. They also focus on the exercises that develop speed. on the other hand power punchers like Kostya Tszyu and Ricky Hatton spend alot of time using weights as well as other conditioning exercises. Fighters losing weight like Vargas tend to combine different elements in to their workouts.

The book also has brief interviews which give some insight into the lifestyle, diet and routine of prizefighters. It isn't the life of O' Riley, thats for sure.

This book is essential reading for anybody that competes at any level in the sport of boxing. For people who use boxing workouts to promote physical fitness, it would also be a great source of information. Finally, the book is written in simple english so anybody can benefit. I usually like complex writing styles but not when I am training!

This book is also an ideal gift for any boxaholic that you know. They will be thankful and they'll remember you whenever they workout. If they are a true boxaholic, that could be up to 6 times a week!

i was travelling in australia and picked this book up in sydney. i was so excited when i saw it. i have read it non stop since being in australia. i will be taking it to the gym and i now understand why these fighters get paid the big money purses. the author has tracked down all the famous boxers from past and present and trained alongside them in the gym, to bring the reader a detailed log of how the champions trained in the gym while getting ready for their big fights. the author also goes thru his own workout and it is awesome. the photos are tremendous and the book is the best i have seen- ever.
