As a Social Work student I have not had much experience in working with substance users and in order to prepare for my placement for this service user group I found this pocket book very enlightening and valuable for my practice. Substance misuse is an issue social workers are faced with frequently. By addressing all the different types of substances in alphabetical order, by their street names what they look like and cost was particularly helpful and extremely practical. I particularly like the reminder boxes that are present throughout each chapter and the check lists. This book is easily read and offers insight into the law element of substance users that all social workers must abide by and legal implications for service users. I found the chapters on addressing risk assessment and the support needed from a social worker extremely important especially as a student as these areas are key to good social work practice. This book is a must have for social workers working in this area. By being a pocket book it is easy to carry around and therefore can be used as a point of reference at any time.

The information is basic in this book but for someone who has never worked in drug work it signposted to everything i needed.

Very easy to dip in and out of this book and gave me a starting point for information i needed. Also because the book was pocket sized it has lived in my bag whilst i have been getting to grips with my new role in drug work.
