Product Description

From the Author

The best window repair book available-honest!
After repairing thousands of wood windows in the Puget Sound area, I had a choice of becoming a window borg for the rest of my life or taking the literary high road and writing Working Windows. The high road called and the result is an intelligent, highly detailed repair manual that covers realistic situations which confront owners of old homes. Broken ropes? I'll show you how to replace them. Windows painted shut? Look inside for safe and effective ways to get them working again. Don't give up on your windows until you read this book. You won't be disappointed-and your windows will love you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 21 May 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Working Windows: Guide to the Repair and Restoration of Wood Windows (Paperback)
I live in an old and sadly neglected house with windows in such a state of bad repair that I'd been looking at them in horror for years, unable to bring myself to face restoring them and not knowing where or how to start. This book is humorous, carefully explained and in every way excellent, covering just about anything you're likely to come across/worry about when taking on such a job. After reading it I knew exactly what to do and how to do it - including learning some very useful tips I'd never have thought of in a hundred years. Thank you Mr Windows, my old sashes and I love you. ... I really can't recommend it enough.

This book is a gem.I have read many books on woodworking and joinery in my 74 years and I must say this is by far the best book on windows you are likely to buy.Concise, witty but above all entertaining.Wooden windows are never easy but Mr Window assumes no knowledge giving all the information in an easily understandable format.Ten stars for me,loved it.
