5.0 out of 5 stars User-friendly, comprehensive guide for graduates 3 April 2013
At just over 200 pages, this is a well-organised guide which can be read cover to cover or dipped into. From the perspective of a middle-aged consultant who has worked in City organisations for 25 years, this provides the kind of comprehensive overview and insight I would have liked when I started. It is aimed at young graduates who want to get a taster of the full range of opportunities available - not just in the world of investment banking.
The book is complete with a section on what to expect from life in the City and how to impress your employer, as well as a glossary of terms. It is packed with profiles of organisations, as well as interesting and engaging case studies of recently successful graduate employees. There is an emphasis on choosing the right path for you, making sense of the complex range of different institutions.
All in all, this is an excellent guide which addresses the FAQs of a young graduate, giving an honest appraisal of what to expect. It provides an excellent starting point to decide if a career in the City is for you as well as a useful reference point if you decide to go ahead with applying for and accepting a job, and as you start to build your career.

5.0 out of 5 stars Working in the City 7 April 2013
By Steve
As someone who came to the City late in life I wish this book had been around when I was 21 as it would have changed the direction of my career. The writing is clear, informative and, believe it or not, entertaining. I'm sure I would have pursued a City career if the choices available to me had been presented so eloquently. I showed the book to my 28 year old daughter, who also works in the City, and she confirmed that the book is an invaluable source of information. Why can't careers advisers be as helpful as this book in presenting information about one of the most important choices that we make in life? It cuts through the complexities and gives clear information. If you are thinking about a career in the City I have no hesitation in recommending this book as a brilliant source of information that will help you make an informed choice about the precise role in the City that you are seeking. If you haven't considered the City as a career option read the book anyway as it may change your mind!
