Review

"I was delighted to review such a practical book...each assessment is complemented by a worked example which assists the less experienced SLT...it is reasonable without being patronising...I commend it to all SLTs working in ALD as a valuable resource." - Bulletin "This book is aimed at speech and language clinicians but may be useful to other professionals working with learning disabilities. In trying to achieve reader accessibility, the book moves from complicated theories to simplistic descriptions. Some chapters may also be useful for unqualified staff...this book is useful for those who have little experience of working with people with learning disabilities."- Ruth Warner, Learning Disability Nurse, Nursing & Residential Care "I am looking to using it in my work place (a residential home for the mentally handicapped)" - Antoinette Loenen, Dutch Educational Psychologist

Working with Adults with a Learning Disability

The Working With books are fantastic!

They are easy to access relevant content and touch upon everything that you need to know. The Working with Adults with a Learning Disability is a good base for further reading on the subject. It has a nice narrative to it and is an enjoyable text to access.

This is a very helpful book for those newly qualified or new to ALD. Everything is chunked meaningfully and covers most of what is necessary to explore clinically. Good value and well worth purchasing.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent resource. 29 Feb 2012
Format:Spiral-bound
Alex Kelly's book, Working with Adults with a Learning Disability, is a practical overview of the main issues that face therapists working with this client group. As a newly qualified speech and language therapist who is starting out in a new post with a large group of clients which has not had any SLT input before, this book is invaluable. It is organised well, easy to read and the information offers a guide to problem solving. It includes rationale for decision-making and provides photo-copiable forms and templates for various assessments, saving me a great deal of time, because I don't have to construct such forms myself.

I'm very happy that I purchased this book. I am sure I will refer to it for years to come.
