"I began my life as I shall no doubt end it: among books."
This bio of Sartre's early years explores his relationships with his mother, grandparents and of course books and literature hence the title of this book. From what I can tell or rather from what Sartre tells he was quite supercilious. He tells a lot about a boy wise beyond his pre-teen years and frankly a boy I didn't care for much. He could have sugar-coated everything and be nice and fluffy but I guess that wasn't the style of an Existentialist. And all the better.
"I am unfaithful to my emotions."
