Book Description

Through his words and actions, Nelson Mandela has been embraced worldwide as our leading symbol of courage, hope and reconciliation.

In the Words of Nelson Mandela is a unique collection of quotations from one of the most admired men on the planet. His thoughts on subjects as diverse as humanity, friendship, oppression and freedom provide valuable insights into the man and all he stands for. By turns moving, revealing, humourous and wise, this book eloquently conveys his warmth and dignity, and his words are certain to inspire and give strength to all who read them.

On freedom: 'To be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the lives of others'

On boxing:'My greatest regret in life is that I never became the heavyweight boxing champion of the world'

On self-respect: 'If you are in harmony with yourself, you may meet a lion without fear, because he respects anyone with self-confidence'

An ideal reading accompaniment to the new film based on the South African President's autobiography, The Long Walk to Freedom

If only the world had more people of principle like this man. Flawed yes, but completely without the need for vengeance. Love the guy and at this time more than ever his influence is needed in so many parts of the world.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mandela book 26 Feb. 2012
By Sebbie
I ordered this over a year ago - sorry for delayed review. I do recall I received this book promptly and in perfect condition (thank you), I bought it for my boss. I didn't realise it was a book of Mandela's quotes/sayings. My boss liked it so it fitted its purpose!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what you are expecting 13 Jan. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
You find only quotations from Mandela: they can be of some interest but there is nothing of Mandela's real life.
It is a book you can have in your library to have a look at. That's it.

4.0 out of 5 stars You shall know him by his words... a wonderful compilation 3 Feb. 1999
By A Customer - Published on
This short compilation of Nelson Mandela's words provides wonderful insights into the man, the politician, the philosopher - from his youth to today. They show him as a a warm and simple human being, a tough and principled leader, as an elder among his people and as a man of wisdom. He has much to teach us. The book doubles as a quick read and a reference, as the quotes are sorted by topic.

5.0 out of 5 stars In The Words Of Nelson Mandela 22 Feb. 2013
By Troy Johnson - Published on
There have been many books published about Mr. Mandela and his achievements, both political and personal. Now Jennifer Crwys-Williams, a noted South African writer and media personality, has collected a generous sampling of the retired leader's opinions and observations.

History buffs will marvel at Mandela's quiet, rational explanations found in the variety of subjects as friendship, struggle, oppression, love, marriage, women, violence, leadership, corruption, hope, conflict, and culture.

This leader is indeed one of the world's living treasures and this collection will surely inspire and delight you.
