Product Description

Product Description

When his first album made him an unlikely star in the late 1960s, Leonard Cohen was hailed as the new poet of song. His melodies were hauntingly melodic but his lyrics were like no one else's - poignant, romantic, mystical and darkly comic. Already a poet and a novelist, Cohen had found another calling in song..."The Songs of Leonard Cohen", "Songs from a Room" and "Songs of Love and Hate" were the titles of his first three albums. Eight more would follow over the next 40 years. In this collector's edition, can be found the lyrics to over 100 of those classic songs, many of them now recorded by new generations of singers that include U2, Nick Cave, Rufus Wainwright and Teddy Thompson. This unique collection demonstrates why.

Amazingly good read 24 Nov 2010
Format:Paperback
I bought this book for relative who is in love with Leonard Cohen's songs. Sometimes reading the lyrics leaves a completely different impact on you - very true for this book in particular.
Leonard Cohen's lyrics are high class poetry that you may read and cry on and laught on and soothe your heart with.
A read no one should miss.

Great source of Cohen lyrics. But I feel that a book like that should be beautifully designed, this one, unfortunately, isn't.

Words Without Music 16 Jun 2011
Format:Paperback
There are few singer songwriters who lyrics stand up on their own and without the tunes to support them and Leonard Cohen is one of those fortunate few; you can read his lyrics as poetry and they are all the more meaningful for it. This is a simple book - the lyrics and a few photographs and yet it can provide endless ours of simple enjoyment with words of love and hate. My only criticism is that the compiler has chosen to add personal comments at the end of most lyrics which are often unhelpful and a personal view that adds no value.
