Product Description

Review

Brilliant! Alison's book is not another good book on the evidence for Jesus and the validity of the gospel. There are plenty of those. No, it's much, much more than that, for it addresses the present reality of the power and effectiveness of the gospel in the lives of ordinary people in today's world. --John Noble, Pioneer

Alison Morgan's writing is so winsome that it's easy to be caught up in the beauty of what she's saying before you realise she's just smacked you between the eyes with a piece of two-by-four. Like her previous book, The Wild Gospel, which was a great inspiration to me, this new book presents a deeply radical message in the most eloquent and seductive manner. You've been warned! --Michael Frost, author, The Shaping of Things to Come

Peppered with stories of changed lives, this book will inspire and challenge. You gotta read it! --Mark Russell , CEO, Church Army

Product Description

The average age of churchgoers in Britain is now 47. Almost every denomination is experiencing steady decline. How sure can we be that we are still offering something people want to hear? Alison Morgan identifies four clear reasons to be confident: 1. The gospel still speaks to confused teens and weary sceptics. By embracing doubts and welcoming questions it remains open to us to present something which answers people's real needs. 2. The word of truth and the Spirit of power still exercise authority and compel attention. Alison's own experience of ministry in the UK and abroad provides illustrations. 3. Spiritual gifts, given not to excite individuals but in order to renew the church for its core task of mission, are powerfully present and widely recognised and practised. 4. In a time of rapid cultural change, new expressions of church are constantly emerging: this is necessary to guard against vital spirituality sliding into drab religion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, 3 Sep 2011
This review is from: The Word on the Wind: Renewing Confidence in the Gospel (Paperback)
This is a wonderful book. Personally I found it even better than the author's earlier work 'The Wild Gospel'. Even the footnotes are worth reading (although occasionally the numbering goes awry). Alison Morgan draws on a wealth of insights from theology and science, church history and contemporary experience. The chapters on the Word of God and on creation are particularly helpful - the latter especially for anyone who has trouble holding together Bible-based, Spirit-filled Christian faith with scientific theories (eg of evolution). The whole book is challenging, inspiring and does what the sub-title says: it renews confidence in the gospel. Unusually in my experience of book-buying from Amazon, my copy arrived with a torn cover and some of the pages damaged; but the contents of the book more than justify a 5 star rating.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, 4 Oct 2011

This review is from: The Word on the Wind: Renewing Confidence in the Gospel (Paperback)
This book is a must read for anyone passionate about renewing societys faith in Christianity. It is honest, balanced and full of truth. For someone like me, young, reasonably new back to faith (four years) but seriously aware of peoples perception of the church (as I was very critical before I came back), it helps to set a clear path on how we can move forward, to ensure people experience the truth of God and not just the steortypes people have fixed in their heads for what church is. Yes there are problems in the church but thats because its full of humans, who aren't perfect. But instead of looking at church as a glass half empty, half full is a better approach. This book highlights many of the problems and looks at how we can move forward, solve problems and help people find God again. Refreshingly inpirational!

4.0 out of 5 stars word on the wind, 5 Dec 2011
This review is from: The Word on the Wind: Renewing Confidence in the Gospel (Paperback)
This is a very helpful book with some encouraging stories to inspire and encoourage all those who want to share their faith in Jesus with others. I liked the thought that came across that to see growth we need to do something! It doesn't take alot of creativity just faith.
