Product Description

Review

"'What is most appealing about this collection of essays is his single-minded focus on the power of the Gospel. Whether it be scripture, Christology, ecclesiology or anthropology, Webster keeps in focus the relationship between theological statement and the witness to God's saving activity'. Ralph Del Colle, Marquette University, USA 'John Webster's robust and scholarly account of the Church's relationship to scripture will be a very important contribution to a crucial discussion'. Peter Selby, Bishop of Worcester '... a significant volume... regarded as an expositor of Barth and Jungel, this collection will show [John Webster] to be a creative thinker in his own right'. David Fergusson, University of Edinburgh"

Product Description

An important collection of essays from one of the world's leading contemporary theologians These essays in constructive Christian dogmatics treat a cluster of themes: the nature of Holy Scripture and its interprtetation; the place of Jesus in modern intellectual culture, and in theological depiction of the nature of the church; and the inseparability of theological and moral reflection.

A Must Read! 12 Jan 2007
By K. D. Kelly - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Doing some research I ran across a footnote on John Webster. The work looked interesting so I picked it up from the library. It was impossible to put down and I found myself wanting to make notations in the margin, so I bought my own copy. The essays on the Incarnation, Conscience, Ethics and Reconciliation are excellent. Webster writes, in my estimation, with a great deal of clarity. Theological tomes are generally not known for their readability-this work may be the exception.
