I found Dan Gookin's book extremely clear, helpful and supportive. I started editing word processing a book manuscript knowing very little about the finer details of Word so editing it became a nightmare. I kept on looking at the 'Help' facility but it often didn't tell me what I wanted to know. Now I have learned a whole lot more, though I haven't actually tried out all the information in the book. I shall be trying various other exploits out in future incase I need them some time. Thank you Dan for your help.

Now 85 years old, in July last year I bought a Fijitzu/Siemens laptop with a greater specification than my old ACER. However, it came with Vista, with an upgrade to Windows 7 when that new system came in on 22 October. I struggled a little with Vista and just as I was getting the hang of it I had to wrestle with "7". Not being the youngest, I just could not get on with it. I bought Windows 7 for Dummies, and all my problems were solved. Getting bolder I bought Word 2007 for Dummies, and both those books are constantly at my elbow. What a godsend those Dummies books are for old codgers like me ! First class products.

I wanted to use a word processor to do simple tasks like write letters, create checklists, party invites etc so didn`t want anything too advanced. This seem to fit the bill, and as it was a Dummies book, I knew it would be well written and relaxed. I wasn`t starting from scratch, when I was a complete beginner my son recommended a dvd called Everyday home computing, which covers every aspect including Word and really is fantastic, and I recommend anyone starting out starts there. It doesn`t show you advanced stuff in word, this book does just that, in a well structured and easy to follow way so I would say if you want just Word tuition then buy this, if you want a starter on word, excel, email, internet and computer basics, go for the dvd as well. Good luck!!
