I'm a ghostwriter and author. I think I may have to do the Index for my

current book, and I didn't know how. I sat in the coffee shop of a bookstore with a handful of MS Word How-To books, and sifted through Indexing and a couple of other things in each so I could compare how each 'spoke' to me. I was looking for easy to understand language, handy tips, and step by step instructions that didn't assume prior knowledge.

When I started laughing and reading bits of this book out to my husband, he commented he hadn't seen me like that with any computer book ... so the choice was made.

I also read all the bits I thought I knew about and found lots of tips that I've been able to use while working on the current manuscript. Just wish I'd bought the book before; it's saving me lots of time and hassle.

Really helpful. Wish I'd bought this ages ago. Lots of advice to dip in and out of, and for someone who finds online 'help' sections a contradiction in terms, it's great to have everything to hand in print.

Has been very helpful. 11 Mar 2007
By Monty Rainey - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Several years back, probably more than ten, I read one of the "for Dummies" books. It's been so long ago, I don't even remember what the book was about, but I do remember that I was very disappointed in it. For that reason, I've always steered away from this series of books. However recently, I found myself in need of WORD 2003 FOR DUMMIES by Dan Gookin. I have to admit that I have been shocked by just how good this book is.

I'm not a techie person by any means, and that makes me perfect this book. It is written in easy to understand terms and takes otherwise complex issues down to their basic level of simplicity. So far, I have turned to this book maybe half a dozen times and in each case, have mastered the subject with little difficulty.

If you're like me, this may not be a book that you read through, but it is certainly one that you will reference as the need occurs. To that end, I am very satisfied with this book. I have certainly changed my mind about this series of books. I know different people write these books, but my first experience was so disappointing, I judged all of these books by their cover.

Essential Reference Book for Everyone with a PC 3 Jan 2007
By Angela R. Beaman - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I got a promotion with added responsibility after updating several company-wide manuals and procedural handbooks, thanks to "Word 2003 for Dummies" because this book helped me construct elaborate and professional-looking documents. I was able to teach myself how to insert a table of contents and an index within about an hour, and I was also able to construct documents with different headers and footers pertaining to specific units. This book literally saved my job. :)

Dan Gookin...best computer author around! 24 Nov 2003
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I wasn't sure which Word 2003 book to buy because there are a lot to choose form. So I checked around to see which author could help me the best. No contest. I had no idea how many awesome computer books Dan Gooken had written! The best new thing about Word 2003 has to be what you can do with smart tag now. It's great to be able to customize them.
