This slender, 112-page Shire County Guide is a helpful introduction to many, though by no means all, of the most prominent attractions of Worcestershire. After a brief historical chapter, the rest of the book is organized thematically, according to ancient sites and buildings, churches, historic houses and gardens, museums, etc The front of the book includes a two-page map, and the back includes an index. The book is beautifully illustrated throughout with black-and-white and colour photographs.
From a tourist's point of view, the principal drawback of the book is that it is organized thematically rather than geographically. Although it does provide cross-references and a one-and-a-half page section on tours for motorists, it would have been much more helpful had it enabled us to see where everything is together, in each locale. Also, the half-page list of Tourist Information Centres at the end of the book should have included information on the days and times when these Centres are open. On the whole, though, it is still a most useful guide for anyone planning a visit to this wonderful county.
