Product Description

Product Description

Delay 68 follow up on the huge success of the continuing '… Is Not A Four Letter Word' series with the first ever reissue of the criminally underexposed self-titled 1969 LP from juggernaut-rock-funk outfit Wool.

Formerly known as The Pineapple Heard, Wool comprised of brother and sister Ed and Claudia Wool, Pete Lulis (drums), Tom Haskell (guitar) and Eddie Barrella (bass). Plucked from obscurity by producer legend David Rosner and Margo Guryan, this LP and two subsequent 7" are the only releases that saw the light of day.

Primarily a covers band, Wool inject their own brand of infectious juggernaut-rock-funk into the likes of Neil Diamond's 'The Boy With The Green Eyes' (reputably with a little help from the man himself), Big Brother And The Holding Company's 'Combination Of The Two' and Dyke & The Blazers' 'Funky Walk', as well as stamping their own authority with self-penned peons 'If They Left Us Alone Now'.

Available for the first time ever on CD anywhere in the world and released with the full co-operation of and featuring detailed liners from the original producers, David Rosner and Margo Guryan, as well as the band themselves!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Priceless Gem! 21 Sep 2006
By Michael Perry - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Yes Virginia there is a Santa Claus and he has finally re-delivered this priceless gem from one of the most outstanding Northeast regional bands of the sixties and early seventies. Ed Wool was a premier act in the northeast for many years hailing from the Watertown NY area. Ed was and still is known as a guitar virtuoso and his hallmark was discipline and perfection in his musicical renderings. This album long out of print is finally available again so we can revisit his wonderful rock and funk renderings. His sister Claudia, an outstanding vocalist provided much of the background vocals and the album was produced by Neil Diamond so you know how outstanding Wool was and how outstanding the sounds are. This is an absolute for any collector of music from this era!

5.0 out of 5 stars Plug in the sheep 2 Oct 2006
By Judd Fortin - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This is some serious retro-active experience that showcases the immense talents of this band. I knew Ed Wool in the Eighties when I was in a band called the Rockmen with him, and I was aware of the talent he possessed then;he can play just about every instrument. He taught me some drum parts and was a invaluable musical resource. Still is.

That was before I heard Delay 68's release of the Wool album. I was totally awakened to a new side of his talent--the origins of the person I know now. The album has a raw edgy feeling inherent of the music of the late 60s. It's not a bunch of lucky local wannabes with a record deal trying to sound like the music of the era; it IS the music of the era, just as Janis Joplin is, or Jefferson Airplane is.

Thank you to Delay 68 for realizing the difference and making the music available for fans of the band and that genre of music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good to hear it again. 25 Sep 2006

It nice to know that this album is available again. Ed is a great guitarist, as can still be herd by going to his ED Wool Band website. Claudia could sing with the best of them, and Pete the drummer was a natural musician if there ever was one. People should pick this one up. I know I will.

5.0 out of 5 stars Memories... 3 Feb 2007
By Anne W. Kanitz - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Wool were the biggest band in Upstate NY back in 1960's-early '70's. These guys used to play all of my high-school dances, and they even played at my cousin's birthday party once. To think that this CD has received such underground recognition is amazing.

I own this album on the original vinyl (purchased it at good old Woolworth!), and never in a million years did I think that it would ever be re-released onto CD (although I was hoping!). The music on this album is great, the vocals are great - Claudia was Upstate NY's version of Janis Joplin - and Ed Wool was one of the greatest guitarists to come out of the area.

It's hard to believe that this band never got famous. There are several songs on this album that definitely could've become hits, but apparently, they weren't promoted correctly or something (even though they had connections to Neil Diamond - so weird!). I remember "If They Left Us Alone Now" used to be played on the radio stations NON-STOP. After reading the other review saying that one of their songs was featured on Third Watch, it completely blew my mind.

I praise whoever decided to restore this album in its original clarity and beauty on CD, and thank them for making this album available to younger listeners. I bought a copy for myself and for my daughter who is 20 and SHE even loves this band.

Well Ed, you really made it! Kudos from one of your original fans! :)
5.0 out of 5 stars Hail, Hail, Ed Wool 30 Oct 2006
By Alan Bell - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I first heard about Ed Wool when my father heard a song from this album on "Third Watch." I now understand his excitment. This is a great CD. The playing is very good. And all the vocals are excellent... especially Claudia Wool on Ed's song "If They Left Us Alone Now." Ed Wool's arrangements have a touch of R&B and Jazz. That, and the level of musicianship, puts this band a step above most from that era. Anyone that enjoys music from the late '60's early '70s should enjoy this CD.
