North London producer Jason Chue--that's "Chewie", or, if you like, "Wookie"--is one of the first truly name producers to emerge from the UK garage scene, but it's quickly clear that this, his debut album, is far from the product of a fleeting dancefloor trend. For six years before the release of Wookie, Chue worked with Soul II Soul guru Jazzie B in the outfit's Camden Town studio, crafting cuts of reggae, R&B, drum'n'bass, and from 1997 onwards, the rough urban breaks of nascent UK garage. Yet this distinguishes itself from the identikit garage crop by virtue of Wookie's genre-hopping lightness of touch; the polished post-junglist breaks of "Scrappy", or the gospel-tinged jump-up R&B of breakthrough single "Battle"--spun by everyone from The Dreem Team to drum'n'bass mavericks like Roni Size. Wookie may yet be accused of sanitising UK Garage, in the same way that progressive jungle producers were accused of inventing the chin-stroking genre of "intelligent drum'n'bass". But that would be unfair; Wookie takes the mongrel Garage sound from the dancefloor, scrubs it up, and turns it free again. And that's quite an achievement. --Louis Pattison

Normally a person with lots to say, this album left me speechless.I'd never heard of the artist before but do like garage so I took a risk and bought it and boy I wasn't disappointed. It's a fantastic album and every tune is a 'good un'. My favourites are 'Get Enuff', 'Battle', and the remix of Soul to Souls 'what's going on?'
I play it all the time at the gym to motivate me while I'm doing an energetic workout.
So go out and buy it. It's funky, upbeat, unique and just BRILLIANT!!!!!!

This album is getting on a bit but these garage tunes from around 2000 are the muts nuts. Bring back some fond memories of what I was up to and who I was with at the time. These tunes are classic and timeless. If you like garage you NEED to own this album! Enough said!

This is an album of enormous quality. Right from the outset Wookie sends you on a journey of break-beats and bass-lines coupled with perfect soulful lyrics. The Dreem Teem have previewed some of the tracks and all their praise is well and truly justified. This CD has everything that is good about UK Garage and 2Step. The production is second to none, and with that every track is a classic cut of major proportions. Whatever type of dance mucic you like this will appeal.....no doubt!! (cwitical cwis)

From the first track to the last this cd is full of some of the finest tracks to come from one of uk garages most talented producers/remixers at the moment. From underground classics such as "Down on me" that was an instant smash hit in clubs up and down the country to "Battle", a song believed by many to be the crowning glory of the up and coming uk garage scene this year. Many of the songs on the album have a prized place in dj's record boxes up and down england and this album should definately take its rightful place in your cd collection
