Be aware that this French compilation is not what it appears. It is , as it's title literally says, music from Woody Allen's films from Manhattan to Midnight in Paris, but that means that although it is a two-CD set there are only one or two tracks from each of his 21 films over that period. From Manhatten there is the Introduction and theme from Rhapsody in Blue, and from Midnight in Paris there are original recordings of Josephine Baker singing La Conga and a brilliant track by Sidney Bechet, but that's it.
Having said that, Woody Allen has chosen some fine music for his films, and there are original compositions by Philip Glass, some Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday and many others, but the proper soundtracks from Manhattan and Midnight in Paris it is not. The sleeve notes are in French.
