Product Description

Product Description

In the turbulent sixties, the Woodstock Festival and the Generation that came from that event were a manifestation of the desire to create a free, loving and just world. Elliot Landy has had his finger on the pulse of the Woodstock generation. He was there before the famous festival, hanging out with Dylan and The Band; he was the photographer of record at the Woodstock festival itself; and he still lives in Woodstock today. In this edition of "Woodstock Vision", Landy captures and preserves the true vision and pure essence of the festival - what it was like to be part of the sixties, sharing the spirit of unlimited hope, optimism, and belief that the world can be made better through peace and love. The book affectionately chronicles what it was like to be at the Woodstock Festival and to be a part of the spirit of its generation.

By Ms. Felicia Davis-burden VINE™ VOICE
Format:Hardcover
This beautifull book is an expanded edition of Landy's 1994 publication about Woodstock, but the festival is only part of Landy's photographic history. He had already encountered many social-political events as well as recording major musical figures in concert up to and during 1969.

For music-fans, the really revealing and beautifull centre of the book will be the sizable chapters on The Band and Bob Dylan. The Band chose Landy - against the expectation of their record company - to provide publicity pictures and, of course, the album portraits for their first two records. The cover photos and 'out-takes' are included here, as well as some wonderfully intimate contemporary portraits. There is a gem of a shot of Rick Danko, showing youthfull vulnerability behind the road-weary posture. Landy's remeniscences of getting to know the musicians are fascinating.

Dylan is pictured at home with wife Sara and their very young children. Dylan is playfull and seemingly healthy, having broken away from the pressurised lifestyle curtailed by the motorbike accident of July 1966. The pictures could be of any other 20-something young family; only the knowing gaze into the camera and instructions to Landy as to what fans might like to see tells us that Dylan wished to manipulate his image as deftly as ever.

The Woodstock festival images, like the film, show characters in the audience as well as on the stage and the viewer feels like they too are walking through the mud and debris. The music is blasting, the alcohol and acid flow copiously and Landy captures everything in brilliant detail.

Thank you Elliott for this fabulous document of an endlessly fascinating era. As a Band fan, this book is a particular pleasure. Play 'Music From Big Pink', view the images and you feel that you know these intreguing musicians a little better!

A Trip Back In Time 14 May 2012
By Ross
Format:Hardcover
From The Doors to Van Morrison and Janis Joplin to The Band and Bob Dylan, Elliott Landy takes you on a trip back in time with this wonderful portrayal of The Summer of Love and much much more. If you're old enough, it will bring back to reality some of the best memories you ever had but if you're of a younger generation, it will give you a first hand insight into what was undoubtedly the greatest time in the history of rock n' roll. Awe inspiring intimate images of the musical heroes of a generation, supplemented by insightful thoughts and narrative. This book depicts a time of which we will never see the likes again, Elliott Landy, however, brings you as close as you'll ever get. Buy it.

What a wonderful record of these times

No-one took more intimate, warmer photographs that Elliott Landy and this book
is a wonderful record of the lving up in Woodstock and of the festival too.
I cannot recommend these pictures highly enough and the warmth and dedication
of the writers chronicling the times, from Richie Havens to Elliott and his wife Linda, this is treasured document of what was and what is part of our heritage.
