Product Description

August 15th 1969 was a day that went down in popular music culture when nearly 500,000 people descended on the infamous site of Woodstock to listen to 26 now-legendary artists over a 3 day period. Woodstock Diary, featuring electrifying live footage performances of many of the bands and performers who appeared, is an enthralling ''fly on the wall'' rockumentary about the creation of Woodstock, on its fortieth anniversary and of the actual three day event itself. It contains drama, humour and even pathos and recaptures those heady days of the hippie movement when young people really believed that they could change the world. And yet incredibly this historic event almost never happened. A series of near-catastrophes conspired to derail the Woodstock Festival and but for the sheer perseverance and chutzpah of several key characters, the whole course of rock music could have been drastically different. Woodstock Diary features appearances from The Who with My Generation , Janis Joplin giving a heart-stopping rendition of ''Ball & Chain'', Arlo Guthrie performing Dylan s ''Walking Down The Line'' and Tim Hardin s tender reading of his own classic song ''If I Were A Carpenter''. Richie Havens, Sha Na Na, Incredible String Band, Jefferson Airplane, Sly and the Family Stone, Johnny Winter, Crosby Stills & Nash, Jo Cocker, Country Joe and The Fish and Jimi Hendrix also turn in classic performances which have ensured that, while there have been subsequent attempts to imitate the event, the original electrifying Woodstock Festival has never been emulated. Directed and filmed by D.A. Pennebaker, and produced by Alan Douglas (who actually shot Woodstock), this is a 180 minute blast from the past a must have DVD title! Released to coincide with the fortieth anniversary of this momentous event.

A Different View 3 Oct 2009

Format:DVD
For anybody who loves Michael Wadleighs Woodstock boxset and wants even more film document of this mecca, then this is it. D.A.Pennebaker (Monterey Pop Festival) and Chris Hegedus do a great job at filming this documentary of 3 days of peace and music and presented in order as it happened. There are a few quick shots and longer clips of festival goers that were seen in the Wadleigh Woodstock but it blends in well to this 3 hour film. I highly recommend this documentary from this historical event of 1969.

As a self admitted Woodstock freak, had heard about this movie for years. Filled in many of the gaps and found it very informative. It shows off the event and the times extremely well and I would highly reccommend.

WARNING:
This release called "Woodstock Diary 1969" is not new but the old "Woodstock Diaries" that were released in 1994!!!!
So for all of you who have the Original DVD don't buy this...
All you get is a new cover and a new name. The DVD is exactly the same! But you pay double the price, what a rip off!
Oh yes there is one difference, they did put subtitles on this release: French, Dutch and German only! Since I am German I checked out the subtitles and they turned out to be the poorest ones I've ever came across! In Arlo Guthrie's Stage anouncements "Far out" is translated to "Madness" and "Freaks" into "Half witts". But the peak is to translate "Walking down the line" into "Marching in a Military Order"!!!

If you haven't got the original "Woodstock Diaries" I sugest you get them because they do have a lot of previously(before 1994) unreleased Performances on them and lots of information. But stay away from this Re-release that only cost more money!
