Gordon is the senior engine on Sodor and is the most powerful of Sir Topham Hatt's trains. Gordon remains goodhearted and is always willing to help out the smaller engines. Designed for children aged 2 and up, Gordon has been built from real wood and is compatible with all Thomas and Friends Wooden Railway playsets and track. Gordon comes with an additional cargo carriage and a character card which outlines his unique personality and role. Father Christmas brought my little boy this Gordon set in his stocking and it's the one thing he tells everyone about (rather than the bike he also got under the tree!). It has been a real hit with this Thomas fan and while it is too early to tell if it will have the quality issues mentioned in one of the other reviews (paint chipping etc), it is doing all right for now. My little boy has the Ikea wodden train set and this train also fits those rails (both Ikea and these wooden Thomas trains are Brio compliant) and he hasn't had any derailing problems.

I bought this train along with the railway set and some other engines for my son's third birthday. He is an obsessed Thomas fan and I was hoping to invest in a toy that would give him pleasure for a long time to come. One year on, whilst he still plays with Gordon and the other engines and gets alot of fun from all his trains, they are all now looking rather worse for wear. The paint chips off very easily and Gordon in particular has large areas where the paint has peeled off completely. The train does not glide smoothly over the track and when he puts a few engines together to make a long train, it derails far too easily. All in all I wish I had stuck with his road and rail thomas train set and trains, or gone for the far superior Brio wooden train set.

Well, you can't go wrong with Gordon. Once you get past his stuffy exterior, his pretentious pride, inside lies the heard of a true hero of Sodor. On of Sir Tophams Finest! OK, enough hyperbole, here comes the review!
My son loves Gordon more than any other engine. Exactly why, I've never quite understood. Gordon is well built, comes with tender, and a well manufactured wooden engine and with good magnets. This is important. Especially if you've ever tried re-enacting many of the Thomas tales, such as 'Thomas and Gordon' where Gordon has to pull 3 carriages and a reluctant Thomas at top speed in your living room. Only the parents of die-hard Thomas fans will know what I am talking about!
