Percy is one of the younger engines but is happy and content; he has little desire for travel or adventure. Percy will always help others when they ask although some engines try to take advantage of his good nature. This great wooden Percy engine is battery powered (1 x AA) and can move around the Thomas Wooden Railway all on its own! With an easy on/off button and powerful 4 wheel drive , the engine is suitable for children aged 2 years and up. The idea of a battery powered train is lovely but the reality of it with two boys who don't yet grasp the concept of turning things off is somewhat different. With new batteries percy is capable of pulling quite a few trucks, that is until he is used on carpet rather than the track. However, batteries don't last long and he spends more time waiting for new batteries than being played with. I would only recommend this train and in fact any battery powered train for older children.

This was the second battery powered train we've bought recently. Thomas is still going strong with amazing pulling power.
Unfortunately we cannot say the same for little Percy!
After only a couple of days he needed lots of coaxing to get any life out of him and by 1 week he had stopped working altogether! The light comes on (so battery is ok, we have changed it just to make sure that isn't the problem) but the train does not power at all!
Very frustrating for a 2 year old.
Wish I had read the reviews before purchasing or I would of found an alternative!

We bought this for our 3-year old grandson and it works well on his wooden railway track, and being battery powered, also pulls his other non-battery trucks along very well. Using it this way though, may contribute to the fact that the batteries don't last very long, but he has great fun with it, and loves all the Thomas and Friends toys.
