If you are an experienced wood carver this will push your expertise to its limits. You will learn a load of new skills and abilities and if you do succeed in completing one of the suggested projects it is fantastically rewarding. The author breaks the challenges down into different categories ranging from (relatively) easy to very complex. Be aware the main commodity needed a plenty is patience, you need it by the bucketful as some of these projects are intricate and complicated.
Nicely illustrated with plenty of detail. If you are a novice woodcarver there are still projects in the book that could help develop your skills but it could easily intimidate a beginner given the advanced skills needed to complete most of the challenges. That said, give it a go but be prepared for failures. Then again that how every advanced carver gets his / her skills. This is an excellent book that I would thoroughly recommend.

What an absolutely amazing book, mindboggling, challenging and inspiring to anyone who has ever picked up a carving knife , chisel or gouge and held a piece of wood . So readable and well presented with excellent photographs . Now need to clear existing projects to try some of these starting at the beginning .

This is a very good little book describing in detail how to make extraordinary sculptures of varying knots in wood. It's very well laid out with clear photos and a reasonably easy to follow guide on how to do it all. It's all done by hand tools, which is great if you have the patience of a saint, not so if you like to use power tools and get there quicker.
All in all a good book for the handtool woodworker who has nothing else to occupy their time.

A well written book with lots of pictures and drawings to help visualise the projects. We havent tried any of the projects yet but thats due to lack of time - the instructions are very detailed and make it seem like anyone could do these projects with a bit of patience.

Pleasing to look at, it's worth having to book just to browse through even if you dont make anything!

Clear illustrations and good descriptions of how to produce some really remarkable carvings. I got this as a present for my brother who carves wood as a hobby and he was very pleased.
