About the Author

Chris Lefteri graduated with an MA in Industrial Design from the Royal College of Art, London, in 1992, and has since run his own industrial design company. He is a senior lecturer at Central Saint Martin's College of Art and Design.

This is not ‘Wood for Dummies’ but it is a ‘very reasonably priced, simple to understand, beautifully illustrated, highly informative book’ that anyone and everyone would be better off for owning.

Everything is cross referenced with beech wood for example, appearing under ‘Beech’ but also ‘typical uses’. This may sound confusing but in fact it makes searching for a particular wood or material property very simple.

Each page has a minimum of one glossy picture that illustrates the text perfectly. The text is kept to a minimum but in a way that the information given is very direct and informative- none of this woolly rubbish so often found in books!

With every material there is a very comprehensive list of suppliers, costs, typical uses, material properties and where to get further information.

In short this book is a must have! This is a case of judge the book by the cover, as what you find on the inside is even better than the attractive cover on the outside. Take my word for it- I’ve got the whole series!! P.S. check out Plastics, Ceramics, Glass, (and the foam, rubber, textiles and metals that look set to come out soon.)
