5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for those who really like to research before a project 16 Nov 2010
By B. Bailey - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
This book is perfect for people like me who do a LOT of research before commencing a new project. I like to know everything I can possibly know before I start something, and this book gives a lot of great information about things that other books on wood flooring wouldn't, such as wood species and measuring moisture content. It also has lots of great pictures and detailed procedural steps. I don't like anything to be left to the imagination...or just assumed that the reader already knows a certain detail. This book doesn't do that. You could pick this book up as a complete beginner and be well-versed in wood and wood installation after reading it. Highly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as fabulous as many reviewers seem to think 24 Feb 2013
By RickyB - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I was looking for good, thorough, detailed information on the basics of layout and installation. This book devotes a disappointing 34 of its 330 pages to the nuts and bolts and doesn't cover everything I need to know, such as techniques for flush thresholds between hallway and rooms. On the other hand, it dedicates several chapters to more ornate topics like borders and aprons, parquet, inlays, medallions and similar topics of zero interest if what you're after is good solid basics. So no, this doesn't merit five stars. I feel I'm being generous with three.

3.0 out of 5 stars For a professional ornate wood flooring designer/installer 29 Mar 2013
By Mitchell Atwood - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I bought this book to help guide me to install hardwood. While it has a lot of useful information scattered throughout, but mostly in the first 100 pages. At page 103, the author says "Most of the chapters to come will focus on designing and installing various types of ornamental floors, while this transitional chapter provides an overview of design." The author did not address stairs at all, but did mention how to make stair nosing, although it was not clear and incomplete. I found much better information on the Internet to make stair nosing. It is definitely not a guide for the DIY.

After reading "Wood Flooring" by Charles Peterson I have one word to describe it "WOW".
I am in the wood flooring industry in both sales and distribution and found this book to be extremly helpful and comprehensive. Very easy to understand and follow, even for those not too familiar with the industry. Lots of great pictures and diagrams to go with this easy read. A great tool for anyone interested in wood flooring.

3.0 out of 5 stars It is Okay 31 Jan 2013
By THOMAS F. MOORE - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I am more of a meat and potatoes guy and I want to get right into the heart of what I am planning to do. This book though well written seemed to add things that I was not at all interested in. Like I said lets get to the installation and technique needed so one can get the job done without all the other incidentals.
