This illustrated account covers creation through to the current state of the earth. It is written with deceptive simplicity and homour. Children will love this book first for its illustrations but the information will come to mean more and more to them as their comprehension grows. It is a children's book that adults enjoy.

Really nice pictures and a responsible underlying theme of conserving and looking after the earth's resources - these were what led me to buy this for a nephew, without having seen it. However this book has a strongly religious theme which is not obvious from the title - if the message that God made all of us and the world around us is not your scene, this may not be for you. The almighty's role in creation features on almost every page. But Mick Inkpen's drawings are delightful as ever.

I have been waiting for this to be reprinted, having bought a copy for my own children and for my (Church of England) school, also as gifts for others. What a shame to give a book a bad review just because you did not find out about it first... it is a children's version of the Bible story with lots to talk about with any child - children at school always especially love the 'animals God made' page with the blue-bottomed monkey! It is a FANTASTIC book and a brilliant Christening gift. I hope those who found it inappropriate were able to give it away to someone who would appreciate it!
