Product Description

Product Description

Benjamin Arnold Guppy loved turnips. He loved eating them, but most of all he loved throwing them. He also loved money and pain...extorting a lot of the former and causing an equal amount of the latter. A foul, sour-faced old swindler with a penchant for clucking like a chicken and more than a passing interest in the local postman, he was determined to get his hands on his neighbours' money, regardless of the cost. As it turned out, the price was his life.

A tale of blackmail, turnip tossing and the cold-blooded murder of an incredibly irritating old man. Based on real-life events.

‘A man wielding a knife as he threatens you is very frightening indeed, but one wielding a honeydew melon is just slightly ridiculous and in danger of ruining a perfectly good fruit.' - Quote from The Wonderful Demise of Benjamin Arnold Guppy

About the Author

Gina Collia-Suzuki is an artist and writer, and she lives on the southwest coast of England with her husband and a family of eight female rats. Following a house move several years ago, she found herself living with nightmare neighbours, and her experiences inspired her to write 'The Wonderful Demise of Benjamin Arnold Guppy.' She does not spend her time contemplating ways of killing her neighbours... well, not much.

A delightfully humurous book which is a must read for anyone who has ever suffered at the hands of bad neighbours.
The story of a young couple who move into a new home, and fall foul of cantankerous elderly neighbours "The Guppys". Their attempts to extort money from the young couple fail, they then embark on a venomous campaign to either make the young couple pay up or sell up.
When Benjamin Arnold Guppy goes a step too far he has to be stopped at all costs his demise is cleverly thought out and will leave you feeling that he got just what he deserved.

Gina Collia-Suzuki has captured the unusual subject matter of nuisance neighbours brilliantly well in this gem of a book.Approached with a good balance of humour and despair it is both laugh out loud funny and grippingly sad as the reader is taken on a journey outlining the devastating effects of nuisance neighbours on their 'victims'.
The nuisance neighbours in this case are an elderly gruesome twosome, the Guppys, who inflict a reign of terror on their new young neighbours from day one.The Guppys display all the classic symptoms of a couple who appear to suffer from a narcissistic personality disorder crossed with delusions of grandeur.
Superbly written and hard to put down, this really is a 'must read' for anyone, but particularly poignant to anyone who really does have the misfortune to suffer with nuisance neighbours.
The awful Guppys are truly the stuff of nightmares and will rank high in the world of literature among the book characters we just love to hate.

Neighbours from Hell 31 Mar 2009
Format:Paperback
What a totally enthralling read! We all have had or known of troublesome neighbours, but I suspect few have been subjected to this level of mental and physical torment. Somehow though, despite the humour, the events have a spooky reality to them. It certainly makes me appreciate the great guys we have next door.
I am sure there is scope for a sequel. Can there be a rise and ultimate fall in the fortunes of the widowed Pat? Or perhaps the appearance of the ghost of Benjamin in a vegetable salad?
