Product Description

Product Description

In this follow-up to her fantastic "Wonderfoods", nutritionist Natalie Savona selects 60 fruits, vegetables, grains, proteins and seeds that are vital for your child's growth, mental development, energy and ability to fight off illness. In fact, with the addition of just water, your child could thrive on eating just these wonderfoods alone. Grouped in chapters relevant to specific body systems: Energy, Tummy, Allergy, Calm, Skin, Defence and Growth, each wonderfood is introduced by its health benefits and vital nutrients, along with expert nuggets of information. Did you know that the beta carotene and vitamin C in sweet potato can help with conditions such as asthma and eczema? Running throughout the book is an invaluable cross-referencing index, highlighting which wonderfoods can help in more than one area. For every wonderfood there are at least two delicious, easy recipes that will appeal to children and the whole family as well as sample menus and lunchbox ideas. A special symbol highlights recipes that children can help to prepare so that they can feel involved in their own diet and learn to be more adventurous in what they eat. If, from a young age, children experience a wide variety of foods, flavours and styles of cooking they are less likely to be fussy eaters and, most importantly, they will take in the full range of vital nutrients needed to keep them fit well and happy.

Great Buy 10 July 2006
Format:Paperback
I have only had this book 3 days and already don't know what I did without it. As well as concise easily digestable information in the chapters the recipes are simple and easy to make. Non of the recipes are anything like the Annabel Carmel ones which take at least 3 hours to prepare. I particularly love the names of the dishes. I successfully managed to get both my children to help make and eat Blubbery Fool because of the name. They have refused point blank till now to eat blueberries in any shape or form. The whole family has enjoyed making and eating the Vampire Pate. This book will not be living on my shelf but on the side in my kitchen.

This book is for whoever, who, like me, loves the idea of cooking something healthy with oat or brown rice or sesame oil and then forgets why they were bought in the first place!! This book gives you lots of great ideas to make meals children will look at and even try or eat!

So far, I have made the chocolate smoothie, my son loved it, my daughter didn't (she's 5, he's 7). My son was extremely fussy until he was 5 1/2 so I am hoping this book is going to turn my daughter into an eating machine!! :)

I cooked the "fish in bed" tonight and they both loved it, I should say we ALL loved that one. For pudding, I had made the coconut rice with nectarines and sesame seeds. I really liked it, the chidren ate the nectarines and the sesame seeds and tried the rice and everybody noticed I had tried to make something special and looked grateful!! :)

The good news is it wasn't much hard work at all and the washing up was easy to do as no fat was used in the cooking.

This book is full of ideas and information and it is a lovely book to look at as well(great photos).

I want my children to eat most things and I like persevering. Not always easy but I won't give up!

A fantastic book! 13 Nov 2007
Format:Paperback
I love the way the food book is sorted by food; often when the kids complain about eating a certain item, I'll bring out the book and we'll look up the chapter with the item in question and read about all the healthy properties in it, and why it's good for you. Amazingly enough, it seems to be having a good effect with my teenager as well as the younger kids! The recipes are easy to prepare, and interesting (love the tomatoes stuffed with sardines). I can't recommend this book highly enough.
