Product Description

What’s a Wonderbag?

The Wonderbag is a portable slow cooker that will continue to cook your food for up to 12 hours after simmering. Just bring your food to the boil on the stove, simmer as guided by the recipe, then place in the bag. It causes around 50% less evaporation than ordinary cooking so the food can’t burn or dry out - however long you leave it - and it saves precious time and energy. The Wonderbag is made from quality cottons that are tough and easy to care for. It comes vacuum-packed and requires friction to bring it back to life and then measures approx 45cm x 45cm x 25cm. It can be hand washed (or on a hand wash setting on your machine). It also doubles up as a cool bag and will keep ice creams frozen for up to two hours, and large frozen meal/bags of ice will stay frozen for up to 24 hours. Just like the cooking, the more you put inside the bag, the more you give it to work with. This makes a brilliant eco gift and kitchen accessory for men or women. Wonderbag will donate a bag to a family in Africa for every one sold on Amazon.co.uk.

Wonderbag Benefits in the Developing World

The Wonderbag Foundation donates bags in Africa where the Wonderbag can reduce a family's fuel use by up to 30% - saving money and easing poverty. The Wonderbag reduces CO2 emissions and harmful toxic fumes which means less respiratory problems and other diseases, particularly in children. There are fewer burns and fires in the kitchen, because stoves are used less. When less time is spent stirring a pot, time is created for child-care, education and other activities. Cooking in the Wonderbag means less evaporation occurs, so less water needs to be collected; saving time and spinal damage. 20% of all staple food in Africa is burned, due to pots being placed on open fires and unregulated stove tops but with the Wonderbag no burning happens. One simple bag, creating huge impacts.

Directions:
  1. Bring a pot of food to a boil and then simmer for a short period of time (will vary by dish type, see recipe booklet) being sure to get the lid hot too.
  2. Place lidded pot into the Wonderbag, place the cushion on the lid of the cooking pot and close the Wonderbag tightly.
  3. Let the Wonderbag slow cook to perfection for as long as you would otherwise simmer. The food is ready when you are.
  4. Open the Wonderbag, season and serve.
Condition Note:

The Wonderbag comes boxed and is vacuum-packed. It is essential to decompress the foam chips before use to restore their insulating powers. Take each section of the Wonderbag separately applying friction (fingertips) to the foam chips to soften them. It takes approximately a week for the creases to drop out depending on how often you use the Wonderbag.

Safety Warning

To speed up cooking time, cut ingredients into smaller pieces. Never put a pot that is over 180 degrees C into the Wonderbag. If you're unsure of temperature, place a potholder (silicone is best) in the base of the Wonderbag and put Wonderbag on a trivet when in use. Food should not be fall below 60 degrees C for longer than 2 hours before consuming or refrigerating. When in doubt, use a thermometer to ensure you food is above 60 degrees C.

Box Contains

1 x vacuum packed Wonderbag, with recipe booklet.

It is a bag for keeping things hot or very cool for a long period. The way that it works is that you essentially bring your meal to a very hot temperature and then put it in the bag and it will continue cooking because the retained heat continues the cooking process. You need to use a cooking pot like a creuset to get the best because the heavy metal pot also retains heat.

The bag itself is not innovative or particularly new. The principle is simple and effective -- as long as YOU follow the principles. The design of the bag is excellent and it is a great way to transport hot food. It is also very good as a slow cooker, but you do need to get that food really hot before popping it into the bag.

It is good if you are looking at cutting your energy bill as most stews etc need you to bring to the boil before reducing heat. But at £60 a pop it would take quite a while before you recovered your outlay through energy savings.

Buy this if either you will use it as a practical tool or if you have too much money and not enough sense. If you are strapped for cash and looking for something that will reduce your bills then there are cheaper alternatives such as a basic slow cooker.

I love the Wonderbag. It's simple to use and really does work. The recipe book that comes with it has some delicious ideas - we particularly loved the paella - but we have also used it for cooking a variety of things as well as to keep food hot or cold. It looks good too - the blue one is simple and stylish. An added bonus is knowing that a needy family in Africa get a Wonderbag for each one sold here.

I have never posted a review on this before but feel I have to share my thoughts about this one. I received my Wonderbag last week and have made three things so far with really mixed results - meat still tough after 3/4 hours, contents not particularly hot. However I have made sure that I've shaken out each section to 'activate' the insulation beads so hopefully that should help. But I'm not raving about this yet. I will persevere it was expensive....feeling a bit disappointed to be perfectly honest. :(

I don't think it cooks stews that well I find I need to cook food a lot longer than suggested before using bag and the food is not that hot when ready to serve

I was given a Wonderbag as a gift and didn't realise how useful it was going to be. It really does work and it is fantastic to leave food safely tucked away in the Wonderbag cooking without the need for electricity. We have found it useful to put in the boot of the car when travelling 4hrs away to a family cottage. We drive and dinner cooks - saves a lot of effort upon arrival at the start of a weekend away with small children. We have also found it great for days at the beach, fantastic to be able to add hot food into a picnic-mix without all the effort of cooking at the beach! I have recommended the Wonderbag to many friends.
