Product Description

CD Description

Dion s lost folk-rock masterpiece!
Wonder Where I m Bound is a fascinating glimpse into Dion s
lost renaissance and documents this major artist s wandering
into an artistically compelling new direction: a mélange of
blues, folk, and plaintive balladry.
In the wake of Dion s 1968 commercial comeback with
Abraham, Martin, and John, Columbia dusted off a
collection of Dion DiMucci s voluminous studio work for the
label and dubbed it Wonder Where I m Bound. Producers Bil
Keane and Jimmy Wisner also added orchestration to Dion s
folk-rock reading of Tom Paxton s I Can t Help But Wonder
Where I m Bound (copying the style of Abraham, Martin And
John ) for a single release in February 1969.
Despite two 1990s compilations of Dion s Columbia
recordings, much of the material from 1969 s Wonder Where
I m Bound has eluded release on CD, UNTIL NOW!
This release includes five tracks produced by the legendary
TOM WILSON (Bob Dylan, Velvet Underground).

I have always loved this album. I snached it up when it first came out on vinyl even though I knew it was put out to cash in on Dion's then current sucess with "Abraham, Martin & John" on another lable. In many ways it is better than the LP Laurie rushed out to cash in on the sucess of that hit. A wonderful colection of blues & folk that Columbia didn't believe in when they first let him record material he obviously felt strongly about. The liner notes with this cd are also excellent. My only problem is that this cd is a straight reissue of the lp when there is still a lot of material in the Columbia vaults in this same vein that has never seen the light of day. Perhaps Bear Family or Ace can someday put out this great artists complete Columbia works. Until then, enjoy this CD.

Not Dion at his best 20 Mar 2011
Format:Audio CD
As a fan of Dion's I was a little dissapointed with this stuff... certainly not Dion at his best and it sounds a little tampered with.

A lost treasure 9 July 2010
By Ralph from Brooklyn - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I'm not even going to try and cover the enormity of Dion's career post Belmonts. Suffice to say that there are very few people who have been as creative and true to themselves over such a span of years as Mr. DiMucci. This album, "Wonder Where I'm Bound" (released in 1969) is a lost folk rock classic that has finally been given a long overdue reissue. The true heart of this album are the five tracks produced by Tom Wilson of Dylan fame. The title track plus Knowing I Won't Go Back There, Now, Farewell and Wake up Baby are classics that deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Blonde on Blonde era Dylan. Some of the same Blonde on Blonde musicians were (supposedly) used on these sessions which is why it sounds like that album as reimagined for Dion. The rest of the album is on a par with the aforementioned tunes, but these Tom Wilson tracks are truly brilliant and a whole thing unto themselves. Dion sings like the fallen angel he was at the time and his voice just aches. The backing is sympathetic to a fault and just shimmers. The only thing that could have made this release better was if Now Sounds could have gotten all the Wilson cut tracks (there are about 6 missing) for this set. But I'm not complaining. Dion is one of the worlds musical treasures and this album just might be his most glorious. Really, the word genius applies here.

lost classic-don't be expecting a golden oldies doo wop sound 7 Jan 2011
By daniel sosikwitit - Published on Amazon.com

i just bought this the other day on target.com with a gift certificate i received for the holidays. i have heard dion's- more popular stuff on the oldies station, runaround sue, the wanderer, and teenager in love. then i read about this album when it was listed by mojo- magazine in their top 100 lost classic albums issue a few years ago. well, all i can say is that it was worth the wait. i have bought quite a few albums on that 'lost classic' list and this is definitely one of the best. some of the songs sound like the early work of leonard cohen and a few of them even sound like the byroads (in fact, dion's- voice reminds me of roger mguinn's on these recordings. the guitar work is sparse and cool sounding and the songs recorded as dion and the wanderers wouldn't sound out of place on the famous garage rock compilation, nuggets. the album is a bit short but for a dude with a.d.d, that'll work just fine. better short but good versus long and boring.

Bought this with his other album 'born to be with you' That I would give five stars to! This was ok, different, enjoyable, but not Dion at his best. That in my opinion was in his gospel years.
