A collection of melancholy yet catchy songs,
By A Customer
This review is from: Wonder Boys - Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I bought this CD on the strength of the Bob Dylan track, Things Have Changed, heard on the radio. The music haunted me for days, so I had to track it down. Having bought the album, I'm not disapponited. The variety of other tracks, from artists as diverse as John Lennon, Van Morrison and Leonard Cohen just widens it appeal. It may not suit everyone's taste, but what a supper collection of songs. I'm gonna have to see the film!

Good soundtrack to a good movie...,
By fk (London) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wonder Boys - Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
The way to judge a good film is to see how long it takes you to buy the soundtrack. Its obviously a key factor, and in this case, i really enjoyed the film and bought the soundtrack pretty much straight away. The new Bob Dylan track on the CD is really good, and i played it relentlessly. This collection of songs really underpins the values of the film characters' anxieties and desperate attempts at life, whilst the music is an enjoyable and easy listen. Its just a shame that artists like neil young and van morrisson don't exist anymore. well, all the more reason to applaud this collection.

My favourite soundtrack compilation,
By Franimi (Essex, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wonder Boys - Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I've bought a few soundtracks in my time, and the usual story is one of disillusionment, i.e. one is lured into a purchase on the strength of a couple of tracks or because of how the songs fit into the film when you watch it, which doesn't always translate to purely aural satisfaction. Among my favourites are She's the One by Tom Petty and Strange Weirdos, Loudon Wainwright and Joe Henry's great collection for the terrible Knocked Up. But these were specifically created for those films. As a compilation of previously released material, this has to be the best. One that comes close is Elizabethtown, which has a bigger generational spread, but this has more cohesion in terms of theme and atmosphere. I agree with another reviewer about hearing Things Have Changed and getting addicted to it, I had to learn it straight away, which hasn't happened with a Dylan track for a while. It was really nice to be brought back to the originals of No Regrets and Reason to Believe which have been overshadowed by probably too many cover versions over the years. The only tiny gripe is why no female artists? Now, just a little Joni Mitchell and it really would have been perfect.
