Book Description

Best-selling erotica writer Nancy Friday's explicit and iconic erotic book on how real life has changed modern women's sexual fantasies. This classic erotica is a must-buy for fans of the record- breaking Fifty Shades of Grey.

Product Description

Nancy Friday's groundbreaking books My Secret Garden and Forbidden Flowers offered an unprecedentedly detailed and honest look at the inner fantasy lives of ordinary women. In Women on Top, Friday returns to this topic, collecting detailed sexual fantasies from over 150 contemporary women from diverse backgrounds. Based on intimate personal interviews and letters, this book updates the conversation opened in her earlier works on women's sexual fantasies, detailing how women's erotic lives have changed over the past few decades-and remained the same.

Nancy Friday's seminal works exploring female sexual fantasy have shattered taboos, exposed hidden desires, and opened up a conversation on women and sex that continues to be relevant today.

Nancy Friday is a New York Times bestselling author and journalist who established her early career writing for high-profile publications in England, France, and the US. Her first book, My Secret Garden, was an iconic bestseller, offering an honest and illuminating look at the landscape of female sexuality. It was published in 1973, and since then, Nancy Friday has continued to write on themes including female sexuality, mother-daughter relationships, beauty, fetishism, and romantic relationships. She has been featured as a guest on Oprah, Larry King Live, Good Morning America, Politically Incorrect, and NPR's Talk of the Nation.

More than any other feminist writer, Nancy Friday returned again and again to the topic of female sexuality. Her Female Sexuality Collection includes her most important works: The Power of Beauty, Jealousy, My Secret Garden, Forbidden Flowers, and Women on Top.

For all the failings it has (such as the lack of diverse sources, and Nancy's sometimes over analylitcal approach), this book does one thing..... it makes you realise that everyone has a diverse sexual imagination, whether they choose to act upon it or not. People who clearly would never 'behave in such a manner' in their real lives, are obviously just as interested as those who sleep with everyone they come across.
In essence then this book encourages women of all ages, backgrounds and sexual preferences to realise they are 'normal', in as much as that 'normal' doesn't exsist. All the women in this book are linked by their fantasies but restrained by their moral backgrounds, religious beliefs and so on. I found it refreshing to read and it gives me hope that true emancipation may one day come into fruition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sexual liberation and fantasy. 27 Oct 2003
By A Customer
Nancy Friday has written about women's sexulity for a long time. In "Women on Top", she writes about women's fantasies and there are a lot of fantasies herein. Be warned that some of the fantasies are extremely over the top and a bit icky. However, most of the them are interesting and it's always good to draw parallels between peronal ones and those of others. I would recommend this along with "Playtime" and "Against Love", two other books that deal very well with female sexuality.

4.0 out of 5 stars Totally Liberating! 30 Oct 2000
By A Customer
I loved this book. It made me realise that I was not alone, and that so many other women (of all ages) shared the same strong thoughts and feelings as I did. It really opened my eyes to my own fantasies that I never knew I had, or had just never thought about. It also made it easier for me to talk with my partner about what I wanted, because I realised that my fantasises were 'OK', and nothing to be ashamed of. A definite must, I would recommend it to any woman.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic and wonderfully liberating read. 8 Oct 1999

This book really pushes down all boundaries by exploring the female mind. Hopefully people will begin to realise that women do not get turned by all that Mills and Boon shmaltz. These are REAL womens fantasies, which provide extremely stimulating reading material. BUY IT!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring....why not? 18 April 2001
By A Customer
I see now that lots of women have certain 'dreams' that are( by most) thought to be wierd. But it's time that we stop thinking about what others think and live our lives as we want because there's enough time for everything that we want to do only if we start it immediately. The book is inspiring for all those who feel they've tried everything.Let's enjoy, life's short if we are inventive!
